UCITSとは？
外国籍投資信託の説明の中に、UCITSという言葉がよく登場します。このUCITSとは何でしょうか。
UCITSとは、EU（欧州連合）の法律に従って設立・運用されている投資ファンドのことです。具体的には、EUの法律「UCITSに関する欧州委員会指令」を満たしているファンドを指します。日本の投資信託の欧州版と考えればよいでしょう。なお、UCITSは、Undertaking for a Collective Investment in Transferable Securitiesの頭文字をとったもので、日本語では譲渡可能証券への集合投資事業と訳されます。
UCITSの定義
UCITSに関する欧州委員会指令（DIRECTIVE 2009/65/EC OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL of 13 July 2009 on the coordination of laws, regulations and administrative provisions relating to undertakings for collective investment in transferable securities (UCITS)）において、UCITSは次のように定義されています。（2012年10月9日現在）
with the sole object of collective investment in transferable securities or in other liquid financial assets referred to in Article 50(1) of capital raised from the public and which operate on the principle of risk-spreading; and — with units which are, at the request of holders, repurchased or redeemed, directly or indirectly, out of those undertakings’ assets.

公衆から調達した資本をまとめ、リスク分散の原則に基づき、譲渡可能証券、及び／又は、指令第50条の１に参照される他の流動性金融資産に投資することを唯一の目的とし、保有者の要請により、直接、あるいは間接的に、その資産を用いてユニットの買戻し、償還を行なう事業。
UCITSの投資対象
UCITSの投資対象には、株式、社債、国債、他のUCITS、その他の承認された証券や派生商品が含まれます。また、銀行預金やマネー・マーケット商品などへの投資も可能とされています。これらの投資対象の他、借入に関する制限、投資制限などは、このUCITに関する欧州委員会指令によって規制されています。
